Dear Parent or Guardian:

We welcome your child to High School Art! I’m excited about the opportunity to get to know you, as well, and I’m looking forward to a happy and productive school year.

This year we will focus on the following curriculum areas:

· Strong Observational Skills

· Analytical Thinking

· Problem Solving

· Brain Development

· Hand-Eye Coordination

Please have your child bring the following supplies to school before August 26, 2013:

· Ziplock Bag (thick one) or pencil pouch

· Pencils, pens, permanent marker and white/black eraser

· Ruler, notebook, and folder…

· There are separate art supply and photography supply lists that will be sent home with this letter. They are also available on the school website: http://shs.scottsboroschools.net/

· $15 fee (for bulk purchases needed and explained on the Supply List)

My homework policy is due on the posted deadline, unless absent with a proper note from home or a professional, then the work is due upon return to school. Homework is assigned about every other week and usually one week in advance. Assignments can also be found on the school website. Homework is 10%-20% of the grade and very important on-your-own experimentation of what was learned and practiced in class so the student can work out any struggles, formulate any questions, or make discoveries that become part of each major project.

My grading policy is 50% project quality (some of the projects will be tests and quizzes), 10% homework effort, 40% full and complete class participation. A GRADING POLICY sheet will also accompany this letter for you to read and sign. This can also be found on the school website.

Upcoming school events you should be aware of include:
