Juniors, plan to take the ACT as soon as possible.  I strongly suggest that you register ON LINE and that you pay for a copy of the test that you take.  You will need a credit card.  Mrs. Kirby should have registration forms if you cannot register on line.

Tentative Schedule


Day 1: Arrive at Scottsboro High School to board charter bus at 9:30 p.m. Depart for Charlottesville, Virginia at 10:00 p.m. Drive straight through with regularly scheduled rest and meal stops.


Day 2: Arrive at Thomas Jefferson home, Monticello at 7:30 a.m. Tour Monticello at 8:10 a.m. Continue journey to Washington, D.C. Tour Capital then drive to Philadelphia. Check into lodging at 7:00 p.m.   

Day 3: Breakfast at the hotel. Depart to meet guide from Centipede Tours at the visitor's center at 8:30 a.m. Tour includes Elfreth's Alley, Liberty Bell, Christ Church, Betsy Ross house, and Franklin Museum and Print Shop. Enjoy lunch on your own. Visit Independence Hall, a bank that has become museum of famous artists, walk through the Mint, and run up the steps of Art Museum (from Rocky movie) at 1:30 p.m. Continue to Boston.

Day 4: Continental breakfast at the hotel. Depart hotel with guide, Scott Aden, at 8:00 a.m. Travel to Walden Pond to meet Henry David Thoreau (Richard Smith) for conversation and walk around Walden. At 11:00 a.m. visit Old Manse, tour house and grounds, and walk across the yard to Old North Bridge, an important Revolutionary War site. Depart Concord, MA and drive into Salem for lunch at Brother's Deli, visit the Salem Witch Trial Memorial, and The House of Seven Gables. Depart Salem at 4:00 p.m. Arrive in Boston at Quincy Market at 6:00 p.m. enjoy dinner at Quincy Market. At 7:30 p.m. depart Quincy market and return to hotel at 8:00 p.m.


Day 5: Continental breakfast at hotel. Leave hotel at 7:45 a.m. with guide, Scott Aden. At 8:15 a.m. tour Boston city. Tour includes walk through Beacon Hill, a drive along the Boston Waterfront and the Freedom Trail, and visit the Old North Church in North End. Guided tour of Fenway Park at 11:30 a.m. Tout the campus of Harvard and lunch on your own at Harvard Yard. Depart for New York at 1:30 p.m.


Days 6: At 6:30 a.m. continental breakfast at hotel. Depart hotel at 7:30 a.m. to meet guide, Selma, between 50th and 51st on 8th Avenue. Tour of New York will include: Ground Zero, Rockefeller Center, Time Square, Central Park, China Town, St. Patrick's Cathedral, and other important sites. Lunch at 12:30 p.m. Return to hotel to change before the Broadway Play.  Leave for play at 7:00 p.m. Return to hotel after play.


Day 7: Continental breakfast at 7:30 a.m. Check out of hotel and depart for Washington, D.C. at 8:30 a.m. Tour Smithsonian at 1:30 p.m. Tour monuments at 3:00 p.m. Tour Arlington at 5:00 p.m.   

Day 8: At 7:00 a.m. full breakfast. Check out of hotel and return home at 8:00 a.m. Stop for lunch at noon. Return to Scottsboro High School at 9:00 p.m.

The estimated cost of the trip is $975 to $1,000.  This amount will be paid in monthly payments of $100; however, the first payment of $150.00 will be due when you present your application . Mrs. Esslinger will receive all applications. Checks should be made to Scottsboro High School.

Requirements to consider:

(1) Students must have successfully completed junior English and have demonstrated a willingness to follow all school rules.

(2) Student must realize this trip is a part of school.   The trip is an educational odyssey.  We will have fun, but the purpose of the trip is to learn. All rules must be followed!

(3) Student will receive a credit and a grade.  The grade will be based on trip participation, the photo essay, and trip journal.   The photo essay and journal are required of all participants.  Failure to turn in photo essay will result in a failing grade.

(4) Students will be selected based on their motivation in the classroom, attendance, attitude, behavior, and the written part of this application.

 The total price of the trip is $1,000.00
