Advanced English 10, Advanced English 9, Creative Writing I &
II, English 10, English 11, English 12, English 9, Journalism I, II,
was born on September 10th in Scottsboro, Alabama, to Wayne and JoAnn
Sims. My father is retired from the MICOM Army Missile Command where he
was the head of the Technical Writing Directorate. He is also
a retired major in the Army National Guard. In addition, he taught
English Composition at Northeast Community College (a very busy man - I
like to think I take after him!). My mother, my greatest role model, is
a retired educator (Caldwell Elementary - 3rd grade). I graduated from
Scottsboro High School in 1982 and entered Auburn the following fall. I
have two fantasic children, Harrison (2014) and Gini Beth (2017), and
my wonderful husband, Mike.
I have a diverse work background which began soon after earning my
Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science/ English from Auburn
University in 1986. From 1988-1998, I worked with Parisian, Inc. based
in Birmingham, AL, in a variety of management capacities. I am most
proud of my time spent in corporate management where I authored the
sales and management training manual for the company and trained
managers to become effective leaders.
Teaching at my alma mater has been a privilege. While we are in
a newer building, the old still moves and breathes through the
hallways. It is thrilling to teach children whose parents I went to
school with, and it often takes me back in time to the fond memories I
have from my tenure as an SHS student.
I come from a long line of educators: my mother, father, aunts, and
several cousins, so I feel like the classroom is a natural fit for me.
When I look back on my life experiences, I have always been teaching -
just not in a traditional "classroom."
few of my personal interests include shopping, traveling, reading,
and making memories with my growing children and loved ones.
I look forward to making memories with you this year! Always remember, wisdom is the reward for listening over a lifetime.
