Bio

It's a great day to be a Wildcat!  I'm Kala Kirby and I am one of the counselors at Scottsboro High School.  I primarily advise Juniors and Seniors in their journey to becoming awesome adults one day.

I am first and foremost a Mom in my time away from school.  I have a sweet, smart 17 year old son named Luke.  We live in Rainsville, AL so I am a commuter.  Scottsboro graciously adopted me from 'the mountain' in the year 2000 and I have been happily serving SHS students ever since.  I enjoy reading, basket weaving, and quilting.

I graduated from Plainview High School in 1991.  I attended Northeast Alabama Community College from '91-'93.  I then transferred to Athens State University and graduated with a BSEd in Specific Learning Disabilities.  In 2002 I began my masters degree in Guidance & School Counseling through Jacksonville University and finished in the spring of 2005.

My primary responsibilities are 1) guidance sessions with Juniors and Seniors discussing college and career readiness 2) Scholarship night and Awards Day presentations that occur at the end of the year 3) I help manage accounts in online education such as COMPASS, AP, & ACCESS 4) I help with student registration and scheduling 5) I constantly monitor student progress by assessing credits and standardized test scores such as the ACT.  In addition to my primary responsibilities I have some clerical duties that include transcripts and filing and any other tasks that need attention in the office here at Scottsboro High School.
